Samantha Grimm is no exception. She often bossed around her ‘younger than her by two minutes’ brother John. The two often played together, and were extremely close. Their parents, both forensic archeologists did their best to raise the two mischievous little ones. Around the time that Samantha and John turned 8, their parents were asked to be the first team of archeologists on the planet Olduvai. They jumped at the chance, and little Samantha had her first trip through the Ark. The scientists were trying to discover who’d built it and why. That was one of the main reasons as to why their parents took the long journey. The family was there a little under a year when tragedy struck. While playing around the dig, Samantha and John accidentally caused a cave in, killing their parents in the process. It was nothing more than an accident, but both of the children took it hard. Especially John. They were raised by the other scientists on the planet, and when John turned 18 he was gone from Samantha’s life for a long time. She went back to Earth to study forensic archeology, just like her parents. She graduated with honors, and UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation) hired her to come back to Olduvai. A year later, she reopened the dig that her parents had spent so little time exploring. It wasn’t long before they brought out their first big find, Lucy and her child. While studying Lucy, they found something unique in her DNA. An apparent 24th chromosome that was man made. It would make her superhuman, superfast, and she’d heal almost instantly. There were no viruses, no cancers, and no diseases of any kind that could be found on the planet. The team was ecstatic about their find, but unbeknownst to Dr. Grimm; Dr. Carmack’s team remade the chromosome and started human testing. They kept finding remains at the dig, trying to get to the bottom as to why this race died out. They found nothing, until one fateful day something terrible went on where Dr. Carmack was doing his work. They’d injected a human with the 24th chromosome, and he turned into a monster. Dr. Carmack sent out an SOS back to UAC, then they called the Marines, and eight of the best were sent out. Samantha was assigned with gathering UAC data from three servers in the labs from where Carmack had sent the distress call. When she arrived in the atrium, she was a little surprised to find her brother John along with them. After a small argument, John was assigned to protect her as she retrieved the data. The two spoke while she worked, a little more arguing ensued until John had to help his team battle with the monsters. Samantha grew tired of waiting on her brother to return, so she headed for him and his team. She found them cornering Dr. Carmack, who held half an arm in his hands. She moved towards Carmack, talking in low soothing tones to the obviously upset man. It was then that Dr. Carmack ripped off his own ear, startling Sam and the Marines that stood around him. From there, things only became more bizarre. Duke went back with her to the infirmary. Sam and another doctor patched up Carmack as best they could, but when they took blood samples his blood had begun to coagulate. Sam was confused as she ran his blood through the DNA analyzer when it came up with no match found. Meanwhile the Marines were off fighting the imps, until Goat was attacked. They brought him up to the infirmary, where they tried in vain to save his life. Goat died on the table while the Sarge pulled another bodybag behind him, finding out also from Sam and Duke that Dr. Carmack had gone…missing. Unzipping it he asked Dr. Grimm what it was, and she had no idea exactly what the imp was. Sarge and her brother demanded that she show them the data she’d been sent to retrieve. She did, sliding one of the green disks into the computer and pulled up video files for them to watch. The video file showed Dr. Carmack’s team putting Chromosome 24 into a human, a vile human at that who had been sentenced to death on Earth. Dr. Grimm insisted that they had never intended to do human testing, and John told her that she’d been tricked into trusting them. By this time all of the other citizens, researchers and other scientists had been sent through the Ark back to the UAC facility on Earth. Samantha was curious as to what exactly the imps were as Duke stood idly by protecting her. She tried to cut into the imp on her table; finding that she needed a bone saw to cut through the sternum of the creature. Duke volunteered to find one for her, but while he was out and she was examining the creatures face the lights in the infirmary flickered. Pushing the numbers to unlock the Nano wall, she called Duke’s name, shutting the Nano wall behind her. After scaring Sam half to death, he handed her the bone saw. It was then that an imp attacked them. They made it through the Nano wall, but the creature did not. It was stuck between the infirmary and the outside hall. The creature launched its tongue at Sam and Duke, thankfully though both of them managed to duck the ‘attack’. With bone saw in hand, Samantha set out to find exactly what the creature on her table was. She took its liver and a kidney out before making a shocking find. Its appendix had been removed. Come to find out the creature was Willis, a member of Dr. Carmack’s team. To say she was shocked was an understatement, but it explained the missing ear on the other imp. During this time Goat’s body had been going through the transition from human to imp, and while Duke and Sam watched in horror he banged his head against the glass shield that separated them and took his own life. Samantha figured that Goat knew he was changing, so in order to save his friends and comrades he killed himself. The marines came back, this time with the body of Destroyer, childhood friend of Duke’s. Samantha explained to Sarge and the rest of them exactly what was going on and that the condition could possibly be reversed. Sarge told her that it was irreversible because Carmack was dead, and with that he shot him. Sam was shocked and bewildered as Sarge told her to finish gathering the data, while her brother protested. She went on, telling John that she would be alright, and finished downloading the data. Somehow the Baron managed to break through to the room the Ark was kept in, but Samantha wasn’t interested in that. She had something else she needed to look at. She took brain matter from Portman and Destroyer, holding it over the creature’s tongue. With Portman’s brain matter the tongue all but leapt off the table, but didn’t budge with brain matter from Destroyer. John rushed in, and after Samantha begged him for a few moments of his time she showed him what she’d found. 10% of the human genome had not been mapped, and some scientists believed that this unmapped portion of the human genome was where the human soul was located. She believed that the creatures picked and choose who they wanted to infect, and that only certain people would take to infection; hence the reason why the creatures pierced the side of the neck with their tongue. Her and John hurried down to the Ark, and transported themselves back to Earth. But not before Sam had grabbed a vial of Chromosome 24. John knew that Sarge was going to kill all of the people down in the UAC facility, infected or not. The two siblings ran into Sarge, Duke and the Kid. Duke had found Pinky, and Sam went over to check his neck out. She told Sarge he wasn’t infected, and the Kid came up to tell Sarge about a group of people he’d found hiding out in one of the storage closets. Sarge shot the Kid, and then the Baron grabbed Pinky from behind. After that it was nothing but a firefight. Sam watched helplessly as Duke was pulled through air conditioning grates, as Sarge was pulled through the malfunctioning Nano wall, but missed her brother being hit by one of his own ricocheting bullets. John holed them up into a storage closet, piling as much stuff as he could against the door. It was then that he collapsed. Sam rushed to her brother’s side, knowing that he was going into to shock. Quickly she prepared a needle full of Chromosome 24, and assured her brother that nothing was going to happen to him, that he would not turn into one of those monsters. The monsters, however, did break through the door and Sam ran for her life, killing those that she could and just outrunning the others. She was almost to the surface elevator, the quarantine almost done when she ran into Sarge and a group of innocent people. She tried to stop him, noticing the wound on the side of his neck and as she did she was thrown to the wall, and knocked unconscious. She woke to the sound of John’s voice; a dull throbbing pain had started in her leg. Her brother asked her if she could make it to the elevator while he and Sarge had their face off. She waited, by the elevator, out of breath and oh so tired when her brother finally came back to her. He cradled her in his arms as they rode up to the surface, and all Samantha could think of was that she was so glad it was all over with. Personality: Samantha is cold, clinical, but very curious about things she doesn’t understand. Her mind works all the time, and it’s really hard for her to shut it off. She’s cold and distant, preferring her science over social interactions. It’s not that she’s socially awkward, but she knows her science won’t lie to her. She likes the facts, and honesty. If you ask her a question, she’ll gladly give the best answer that she can. It’s just in her nature. When she does warm up to someone she can, and will joke around with them. She loves to flirt, but doesn’t find much to any time to do so. She can be slightly bossy, but that is thanks to being the first born of twins. She could never help but to boss John around, although it is doubtful that she’d boss him around now. She always knows what’s best. When scared, however, she’ll lock down and become the ‘typical’ damsel in distress. Appearance: Samantha stands at an average height of 5’8”, and weighs around 138lbs. Her skin tone is pale, from all of her years stuck inside the UAC Olduvia research facility, but her cheeks always have a rosy blush to them. Her hair is blonde, and falls past her shoulders when she wears it down from the typical French twist she usually sports. Her eyes are a dark brown, something her and her brother both share. Usually you can catch her in comfortable clothing, such as jeans and long sleeved t-shirts. While she’s doing work in her lab, she’ll be wearing her lab coat as well. Likes: Science, research, flirting, archeological finds/magazines, her brother John, mangos, Chinese food, and random sci-fi movies.
